T.A.C. Mission Statement:

The Teen Art Council of Dreams is dedicated to using the arts as a valuable vehicle for self- expression to promote social awareness through the facilitation of community projects. We will host a variety of arts workshops to local non-profits, government agencies, businesses, and after school programs.

T.A.C. Objectives

  1. Focus on teens and adolescents.
  2. Motivate teens to become more involved with their community.
  3. Create partnerships with local organizations, using the arts as the connector.
  4. Provide a cross -cultural experience through art workshops that expose young people to art forms from various cultures.
  5. Use the arts as a motivator for academic achievement.

Our Mission in Action……..

March 25th, 2005: Teen Arts Council hosted a quilting workshop for the women and children of the Domestic Violence Shelter. Working with local artist Frizi Huber, the teens worked side by side the women and children to create individual quilts each symbolizing their new family units.

April 22nd, 2005: We partnered with the Cape Fear Literacy Council and Wilmington Housing Authority to host a Poetry Jam at the Creekwood housing development to promote literacy. Bristol Books donated numerous books which were handed out to our audience.

July 29th, 2005: The Domestic Violence Shelter joined TAC and African dancer and drummer, Cheick Sissoko at the Dreams center for a night of African dance, music and culture.

August 30th & September 8th, 2005: Improv Dinner Theater at DC Virgo and Williston Middle Schools for 6th graders and their parents who are new to the middle school experience.
Theme: What’s Up With 6th Grade? A fun look at the trials of becoming a teenager.

How do we do it?

The Teen Arts Council holds a series of small fundraisers to earn the monies necessary to host various arts workshops for community organizations. So far we have held two fundraisers, a Fish Fry on June 17th at the Dreams Center and a Carnival of Dreams on July 16th at Sam’s Club!
