Are you an artist at heart? DREAMS is always looking for enthusiastic, creative young people to join our family. Here at our Center, our classes are open to youth ages 8-17, and they’re free of charge for students who qualify for the New Hanover County Schools free/reduced school lunch program. We do accept a certain percentage of paying students on a case-by-case basis.
If you’re ready to start DREAMing, download our application here. Next, call us at 772-1501 to set up an appointment with one of our program coordinators. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Students are referred to us from a number of sources, including their parents, social services, the juvenile justice system, guidance counselors, the mental health system, and word of mouth. Often, our young artists invite their friends to become a part of DREAMS. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a DREAMer, please give us a call.

We operate on a semester basis, with a similar schedule to the New Hanover County school system. Classes are cumulative, building on each other from one week to the next, so the best time to enroll is prior to the beginning of each semester. Our fall semester typically starts in September, our spring semester starts in January, and our summer semester starts in June.

Not to worry! We have a drop/add period of several weeks at the beginning of each semester. Some teaching artists will only accept new students during this time, whereas others welcome new students throughout the semester. We determine this on an individual basis, so don’t hesitate to contact us if you’re interested in becoming a DREAMer, regardless of the time of year.

To participate in the DREAMS program, all we require is a positive attitude and the willingness to learn. We offer a variety of classes for all ages and levels of experience, from beginners to intermediate to advanced. Give us a call to figure out where you fit in.
